Today, more than 121,000 DuPage County residents are one paycheck away from being homeless. Surprisingly, the average age of a homeless person in DuPage County is eight years old. Although DuPage County has the second highest median income in the Chicago area, it has more low income persons than the total population of 87 counties in Illinois. Bridge Communities Bridge Communities is a transitional housing program serving homeless families living in DuPage County. Bridge Communities' formula is successful, over 90% of the families that complete the two-year transitional housing program are able to maintain stable housing, employment and continuing education for themselves and their children. Bridge Communities is working with over 100 homeless families to help them: Learn how to live independently Succeeding at work and at school Feeling the freedom that comes with owning their own home

Sleep Out Saturday Sleep Out Saturday is designed to help build awaeness of the issue of homelessness in Dupage County, while at the same time to raise funds for Bridge Communities. If you were not already aware, Directions Training Center is involved with Sleep Out Saturday. We are raising money to help homeless families transition to a brighter future and are asking for your support. Your contribution will: - Provide safe, warm housing for a family with young children
- Provide tutoring to the children to get them back on track in school
- Provide the family with a donated automobile while they are in the Bridge program
- Provide career counseling with an employment specialist who will work with the family to find the best employment opportunity
- Provide mentors who will work with the family throughout their two-year stay with Bridge Communities to help them with budgeting and life skills. The mentors will be the family's best cheerleader and a shoulder to cry on in times of need.
